Theme: Abundance

The concept of isolate is multi-faceted and can be explored through various viewpoints. Here are some examples of how dictionary.com defines ABUNDANCE:
  • An extremely plentiful or oversufficient quantity or supply
  • Overflowing fullness 
  • Affluence; wealth

Submission Guidelines

Creative Writing Submissions
  • Work must be based on the theme of abundance
  • Entry can be a short story (3,000 words or less), poem (45 lines or less), or non-fiction piece (3,000 words or less)
  • Must be digitally-produced, double-spaced, and submitted by email
  • Must be an original, unpublished work (has not appeared in a physical or digital platform)
  • Title must be in the upper right corner of each page submitted, and page numbers on the bottom right corner
  • A cover sheet is required for each entry that includes the following:
Author's name
Mailing address
Phone number
Email address
Title of submission
Word count
Entry category (short story, poetry, non-fiction)
  • Up to two entries may be submitted per person
  • All submitted work should be "publication ready"
Cover Art Submissions
  • Art must be an original piece, created by the submitting artist
  • Work must be based on the theme of abundance
  • Must be presented in an acceptable and tasteful manner
  • Size to be 6x9" in diameter; line work resolution to be 600dpi or higher, all other art forms to be 300dpi or higher
  • Translates well from color to black and white
  • Must be submited in JPG, PNG, or GIF format by email
  • A cover sheet is required for each entry that includes the following:
Artist's name
Mailing address
Phone number
Email address
Title of submission
Medium
Description of artwork (25 words or less)
  • Up to two entries may be submitted per person
  • All submitted work should be "publication ready"

Submissions will be accepted from November 6th, 2023 to January 5, 2024 by email to ANTHOLOGY@HENDERSONLIBRARIES.COM

What's next...

Judging
  • All entries will be ranked anonymously based on content, originality, and quality of expression
  • Judges' decisions are final
If selected
  • Writers and artists of top-ranking submissions will be asked to sign a licensing agreement which gives Henderson Libraries the right to publish and distribute selected work indefinitely
  • Authors and artists will retain copyright of their individual work
Publication
  • Top-ranking manuscripts and cover art submissions will be published in the anthology Impressions: Abundance
  • This anthology will provide local authors and artists the opportunity to build name recognition and readership/viewership
  • Cover images will be printed in color; all other selected images will be printed in black and white
  • Copies of the anthology will not be distributed or sold by Henderson Libraries, however, copies will be added to our circulating collection and available for check out
Reception
  • Henderson Libraries will not be hosting a reception at this time. Participants will be notified if this decision changes.
